Machine learning is complex. Machine learning with Apache Spark isn't any simpler. The Apache SystemML project is intended to simplify machine learning on Spark clusters at scale.
My team was tasked with designing a website that lowered the barrier to entry for those new to data science while still maintaining relevant messaging and content for more experienced engineers.

We utilized design thinking methods to focus on both users personas to strike the right balance between the two. We created prototypes and presented them to new and experienced users to test and validate our concepts and designs.

Process

I was involved in much of the design process in concepting and guiding the information architecture. I provided technical guidance to my team to help raise their understanding of the domain. I also spent much of my time implementing the designs into final production website.

UX Engineering

A project I worked on as a part of Spark Technology Center, an IBM initiative focused on evangelizing Apache Spark and it's use cases in the data science community.

As the lead developer of the Spark Technology Center I implemented the organization's main website using the Ghost blogging platform API on the backend/CMS and Handle Bars and Sass for building the UI on the front-end.

Zoobit is another early project of mine where I was the sole designer on the project. It's a "virtual pet" game (think Tamagatchi) that was initially developed by a group of student developers from Code Fellows.

As a part of my own UX Engineering class' final project my goal was to give this app a front-end facelift from its initial conception. I took it upon myself to create a brand, visual design, UX as well as the character illustrations. I was also one of two front-end developers tasked with implementing the design. All of this was accomplished in 4 days (per our final project deadline).

Kwilt Queen was an early client project of mine that I had originally taken on for a school. The project involved all steps from user research to implementation which I had done solo.
After the project ended the work continued as the site was iterated on and improved.
